According to the popular
tradition Corniglia it has origins roman. She wants in fact gens the Cornelia owner
of a bottom and manufacturer of a rinomato wine already then, a lot is true that
vinarie amphoras with the name of Cornelia have been found again to Pompei.
The history of Corniglia in medieval age is similar to that one of the other
villages of Five Lands. The country belonged in the order to the Fieschi,
accounts of Blackboard, as a result of the getlteman of Carpena
(ancient podesteria in the gulf break) and to the bishop of Luni then.
The first citation of Corniglia in a document is of 1211.
From archives documents which are known that a castle existed,
of remain the traces in wall of the cemetary, occupied temporary from
the Pisani and given back from costoro in 1254. In 1254 Pope Innocenzo IV,
of the family of the Fieschi, which possessed already
of the territories in the gulf they break and
aimed to expand itself ulteriorly. But the Fieschi was stopped from the Republic of Genoa, than already
from 1211 it had obtained submission of Corniglia and Vernazza. Therefore from then Corniglia it followed
the fates of Republic of Genoa. Documents of the archives of state of Genoa brings back that in the 1556
Republic it deliberated the construction of one rocca and of
one cerchia building in order to defend
the village many times over plundered from the infedeli and the pirati ones. Of such rocca the
ruderi in the high part of lived ALTRE the NEWS exist 1608: the Five Lands forgiveness
the podesteria function. Corniglia passes under the commanded one of La Spezia. 1797:
the napoleonico period falls the Republic of Genoa and inzia. 1815: the Republic of Genoa
comes annexed to the reign of Sardinia. The Five Lands, also remaining isolated geographically,
have one sure economic resumption. 1874-1880: the construction of the railway line Genoa-The Spezia,
joins Five Lands to the rest of the territory. 1926-28: doubling of the railway line
